About Nikki Feldmeier
It is my goal to promote and engage students in lifelong learning, and increase my student's awareness of the community and world around them. I achieve both of these by creating projects and lessons that are hands-on, engaging, and relate to the real world. One example would be the endangered and invasive species project that I created which has students complete research and find ways to help defeat the problem. In the summer of 2012 I enrolled in a Service Learning course at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse where I took a road-trip from Wisconsin to California. During my time in California I participated in community service and co-created two lesson plans. One lesson plan, on Using Field Notebooks for Biodiversity Study, was published on Science Net Links Website. During the lesson, students gain an awareness of their community by exploring the surrounding flora. The lesson uses differentiation by including writing, drawing, dissecting, and technology aspects in it to pique the interest of students with a variety of learning styles.
