About Nikkolas Jachim

My educational and professional career have been strongly guided by two important influences. These influences are a fascination with natural sciences and a dedication to community and customer service.I have been able to successfully explore my interest in community and customer service while working as a Photo Lab Technician with Walgreens and as a Corps Member with City Year. My work as a Photo Lab Technician was highly customer service oriented while also involving laboratory and inventory management. Some of the work that I'm most proud of was done while serving as a full time volunteer tutor with City Year. Along with the valuable time spent tutoring and mentoring students, I was also able to participate in and help lead community service projects involving urban and natural restoration.My pursuit of engagement with natural sciences has also been successful through both education and job opportunities. While studying at Weber State University and the University of Oregon, I was able to gain impactful experience working in biology and chemistry labs along with completing advanced courses in biology, chemistry, physics, math, geology, and environmental science. As part of my biology coursework, I was also a part of multiple field courses and group research projects that allowed me to advance my teamwork, team building, and leadership skills. During my time as a Stream Inventory Technician with the U.S. Forest Service and a Quality Control Technician with Stoneway Concrete, I was able to progress my skills in field research, data collection, data entry, data analysis, GPS and map navigation, independent and small group work, sample preparation, materials testing, and report creation.My next opportunity, with Cascade Environmental, introduced me to the world of thermal remediation and led me to my current position, Environmental Scientist at GEO Remediation Company. I'm now lucky enough to travel to sites across the country and world practicing and further developing the passions and skills mentioned here while leading and assisting some of the most exciting environmental remediation work ever done.I have thoroughly enjoyed these successes. I look forward to continuing to advance my experience in the natural sciences as well as community and customer service both now and in any future opportunities.
