About Ninad Shinde

I am a postdoctoral researcher with over 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, specialising in quantifying and reducing uncertainty in soil/rock in-situ stiffness measurements and improving the predictive capability of OWT foundation design methods. My expertise encompasses advanced soil laboratory testing and geophysical field testing of soils. As a postdoctoral researcher, I have led extensive in-situ testing programs, including SCPT, Cross-hole, Down-hole, P-S Logging, MASW, and Pressuremeter tests. By implementing rigorous quality assurance practices, I ensured the highest standards of in-situ data and specimen collection. I am currently analysing large datasets from these carefully controlled experiments to identify inter- and intra-method variability in estimating small strain in-situ stiffness, while also supporting advanced laboratory testing of samples retrieved from the test site. During my tenure at IIT Roorkee and IISc Bangalore, I honed my skills with advanced soil laboratory equipment such as resonant column, bender elements, cyclic triaxial, and rock triaxial apparatus. I independently learned and performed calibrations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these equipment, excelling in independent research and technical writing. Additionally, I trained fellow research scholars on various laboratory test equipment and safety management practices, established new laboratories, and conducted extensive qualitative and quantitative research. In addition to my research endeavours, I have served as a lecturer and course coordinator at the University of Glasgow, for an undergraduate course, Geology and Surveying for Civil Engineers. I delivered practical surveying sessions, assessed student performance through assignments and examinations, and mentored Ph.D. and Master's students, fostering a collaborative and supportive research environment that fuels innovation. Throughout my research journey, I have gained extensive experience in geophysical field testing and laboratory testing of soils/rocks, significantly enhancing my skills.
