About Nithish Raj Prasad

Currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), I am passionate about uncovering the hidden stories of the microscopic world. My research journey began with imaging white blood cells and has since evolved into investigating a unique sub-set of neutrophils with the goal of developing them into a potential cell therapy for acute lung injury. As part of my doctoral thesis, I have: • Characterized novel neutrophil sub-populations and their therapeutic potential. • Developed a mitochondrial transplantation technique to restore functionality in exhausted immune cells, prolonging their immunomodulatory roles. • Applied advanced imaging and translational approaches to bridge fundamental immunology with therapeutic innovation. Driven by curiosity, creativity, and translational impact, I aim to bridge engineering and immunology to create innovative solutions for human health.
