About Nitya Jacob

I am a water policy analyst with strong research and writing skills. I am an amateur photographer with serious hardware. I have worked in the mass media and the development sector. I have excellent analytical skills and am good at advocacy, research, writing, editing and programme management. I have conducted research, and led national advocacy campaigns, on urban water supply and sanitation, community radio and promotion of information communication technology as a tool for development. Aimed at policy change these brought together the government, NGOs and academics. I have managed large projects to document and evaluate trends in rural and urban development. These include an assessment of Swacch Bharat Mission, the impact of information communication technology on development, governance, universal birth registration, HIV/ AIDS and community radio. Additionally, I have conducted action research on integrated water resources management, groundwater and traditional water management. I have excellent communication skills. I have written a book,"Jalyatra, Exploring India’s Traditional Water Management Systems", published by Penguin in 2008. I wrote an essay on water for "Water Voices from Around the World", an UN-sponsored book of essays by global leaders. I won an Asian Development Bank scholarship to participate in the Third World Water Forum, Mexico, in 2006 for my writing. I have researched, documented and published documents on the work of major donors in rural and urban development. The topics include I am good at developing and maintaining partnerships with institutions and individuals at all levels. I have worked closely with the government of India and NGOs over the past several years on policies and programmes. I have a diploma in integrated water resources management from Sweden that exposed me to the current thinking on water management and practices.
