About Nivea Bona

I am a bachelor of journalism with a master's degree and a Ph.D. in communication. I was a university professor and program chair for over 15 years for distance and on-campus programs, always in communication courses. I chaired the journalism program at Centro Universitário Uninter, leading a team of 25 professors and managing more than 400 students. I implemented over 40 pedagogical projects during my coordination, including radio shows, student activities, events, and community interaction projects. For Distance Education/Online Education, I taught students at different levels: professionals, B.A.s, and M.A.s, and I also coordinated the content production for distance classes at Universidade Positivo. I founded a communication agency called Priory, performed assessments for institutional communication, marketing, and interpersonal communication, and developed communication materials for companies such as Keune Haircosmetics and Caliper (Brazil), among others. I have published four books, one in its second edition (Publicidade e propaganda: da agência à campanha). I came to the USA for family reasons and helped manage my husband's family's B&B in Bar Harbor from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, I worked as a letter carrier at the USPS since there was a shortage of delivery people due to the pandemic. Now, I am back in the field where my heart beats fast: the academe. I am teaching communication at the Mass Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations Department in the College of Communication of Boston University. My academic research is focused on community, alternative, and grassroots communication and communication in social and grassroots movements.
