Hi! I'm the Manager of Provincial Planning at the B.C. Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness. This position sits within the Disaster Risk Management (DRM) division. I have six years experience in disaster readiness and response, including over 15 emergency operations, with two emergency management agencies (Canadian Red Cross and B.C. Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness). My educational background is in human geography, which includes topics such as global development, mapping, urban planning, natural hazards, and social vulnerability. I'm a volunteer at board and leadership levels with four community organizations on Vancouver Island. As much of my work-life happens at the provincial and national levels, volunteering locally helps me ground my perspective and continue developing new skills. I spent three and a half years as a human resources professional and bring this experience to everything I do. As a manager, I enjoy leading and supporting motivated teams who feel respected, recognized and engaged. My expertise in disaster risk reduction includes-Emergency planning (inc. humanitarian assistance, logistics and catastrophic hazards)-Program management & evaluation -Facilitation & public speaking -Training & exercise development -Human resource management & mobilization -Modelling & risk identification including social vulnerability and GIS -Public education/communications and personal preparedness
