About Noah Vanderhoeven

Research Skills: Through university assignments, a research presentation and undergraduate summer fellowship at Huron I have developed the ability to use databases, search engine alterations and problem solving in taking a research question/problem and building a collection of evidence and opinions. • Data Analysis: I am comfortable with the foundational skills for statistical analysis from my degree in economics and have gained proficiency using the data platform R in a data analysis setting for research purposes. • Reading Comprehension: I have developed the ability to learn about a topic/issue quickly through reading relevant sources. Beyond this, I have also learned how to thoroughly to compile additional sources, synthesize this information and work to communicate conclusions orally and in written form. • Initiative: The learned ability through my academic career, as well as research assistance work, to listen and understand the instructions and then take personal steps to ensure tasks are completed at and above their standards in a timely fashion. • Communication Skills: I am a skilled speaker and engaged listener in group discussions. My past work experiences and presentation at the Huron Centre for Undergraduate Research Learning Fall 2018 and 2020 Exhibitions, as well as many presentations in course for my BA and MA, have allowed me to become comfortable and proficient in situations where clear communication is crucial in person or via Zoom, telephone or in writing. • Personal Management Skills: Through my education and past work experiences I have developed the ability to set short term goals that enable me to complete multiple tasks on time and in an efficient manner. As well, my work experiences have allowed me to develop the ability to take initiative to complete tasks in the workplace. • Teamwork: Having participated group projects, multiple podcast projects and in a CURL research fellowship, I have developed the ability to maintain a positive attitude, good communication and clarity over tasks that need to be completed, which benefits me as well as group members. Also, I have gained plenty of experience of taking constructive criticism onboard and incorporating it into my work. • Work Ethic/Focus: Throughout my academic career I have displayed a strong work ethic, focus and determination along with being well prepared for any assigned even if plans change or require multi-tasking.
