About Nolan Clapp

I am currently working at Panasonic Avionics as a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Seats and Monitors division. I have been focusing on creating concept models to present novel mechanical ideas to the industrial design and executive teams in order to create new projects for the team. This concept development involves starting with an idea, developing a 3D CAD model, performing simulation on the model (thermal, fluid, structural), and creating a functional prototype to be tested. Prior to working at Panasonic, I worked as a mechanical engineering intern for TechnipFMC Schilling Robotics where I worked on several projects related to the subsea robotics industry. My main project was a water pressure test chamber to test components to validate them to certain depths. I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with both a Master and Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. I focused my graduate level studies on stress analysis, and completed my thesis on the "Implementation of Topology Optimization into the Mechanical Design Process"Before graduating, I had the opportunity to work as the mechanical coach for my local high school's robotics team (FRC team 4141). I was able to teach the club members the basics of mechanical design, CAD fundamentals, as well as many manufacturing practices including 3D printing and CNC routing.
