About Nora Engel
Interdisciplinary social scientist with 10+ years of experience in developing and teaching courses as core team member of the Global Health Master’s of Science at Maastricht University. I am an Associate Member at the McGill International TB Centre, McGill University, Canada and teach qualitative methods at the McGill Summer Institute in Global Health. In my research I apply qualitative methods and conceptual tools from Science and Technology Studies, medical sociology, anthropology and innovation studies to study innovations and technological change for global health, mostly in the field of tuberculosis, HIV, malaria and (point-of-care) diagnostics. For my research on user perspectives with regard to new technologies, I have been serving as technical expert on WHO guideline making meetings on tuberculosis diagnostics. I am a founding director of the virtual centre for Social Science & Health Innovation for Tuberculosis (SSHIFTB https://sshiftb.org/) to amplify social science research and innovation to address the global tuberculosis epidemic.
