About Norbert van Dijk

I am a biomedical researcher specialising in parasitology, tropical infectious diseases and (molecular) diagnostics. As a postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus MC, I am acquiring new skills in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, focusing on Schistosoma population dynamics and drug resistance on Pemba Island, Tanzania. My PhD research at Amsterdam UMC focused on visceral leishmaniasis in Kenya, where I investigated this neglected disease from an epidemiological, geospatial, diagnostic and immunological perspective. I have also worked on the development and evaluation of innovative, simplified molecular diagnostic tools for parasitic diseases like malaria and leishmaniasis. Next to my research activities, I enjoy teaching, and I have given lab trainings to research partners in Africa, supervised student interns and tutored medicine bachelor students.
