Consultancy work: Provided a day-long training course on the basics of the R statistical software package to researchers from several colleges and universities in Ireland. Analysis, interpretation and presentation of results for several Masters theses (primarily based in the field of medicine). Consultancy work for the Clinical Research Facility at NUI,Galway. Studies include: • Poisson regression analysis of treatment practices of surgeons and units treating cancer; • Analysis to determine if search activity for information on various cancers on Google coincided with those cancers’ awareness months; • Analysis of a large observational study (n = 9600) examining the prevalence and management of cardiovascular multi-morbidity in patients over the age of 55; • Analysis of a randomised multicentre clinical trial. This study involved extensive data cleaning, generating summary statistics and graphs, fitting and interpreting logistic regression models and linear mixed effects models, extensive use of Minitab and R, liaising closely with clinicians, etc. Finite mixture model clustering of SNP data from the sugarcane plant, in collaboration with Professor John Hinde at NUIG and Augusto Franco Garcia from the Department of Genetics, ESALQ/USP, Piracicaba, Brazil. Assessment of pollution levels at various coastal sites in Ireland through the analysis of mineral content in seaweed, in collaboration with Dr. Liam Morrison at NUI Galway. Current research: Analysis of time-course RNA-seq data to detect differentially expressed genes during mesynchymal stem cell differentiation and in neuroblastoma cells. Testing for differentially expressed proteins using data from mass-spectrometry. Development of models to cluster time-course RNA-seq data with replicate trajectories for each gene. Reverse-engineering of cell-signalling networks. Specialties: Functional data analysis, mixed effects modelling, multivariate analysis, statistical consultancy.
