About Norma Hancock

Norma Hancock, Ph.D, is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Speech and Language (SAiL) Literacy Lab at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. She leads the Boston site for Project 3 of the Learning Disabilities Translational Science Collective, one of the two Learning Disabilities Research Centers (LDRC) funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Recently, Dr. Hancock's work developing the Structural Racism Index earned a Pediatric Research LRP award from the NICHD. Before obtaining her Ph.D, Dr. Hancock dedicated almost two decades to public education, teaching PreK-2 and holding positions as a reading specialist and district literacy leader. During this time, implementation questions related to measuring response to intervention, dyslexia screening, and MTSS sparked her research interest. Currently, her research focuses on the comorbidity of dyslexia, developmental language disorder (DLD), and ADHD, as well as school-based practice and measurement. Dr. Hancock is actively involved in organizations such as The Reading League (TRL) MA chapter, where she serves as a board member, and the Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) MA chapter, where she holds the position of secretary. Additionally, she works as a consultant, aiming to create equitable access to literacy for all students.
