With over 24 years of experience in academia, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my current role as the Director of Library Services, Instructional Designer for Online Teaching and Learning, and Canvas Learning Management System Administrator at Mountain Gateway Community College. In this multifaceted position, I oversee a diverse array of responsibilities, including managing library services, coordinating a testing center, and writing center, and spearheading campus-wide online instruction training initiative. Moreover, I am deeply involved in teaching freshman college success courses and an introduction to computers course, actively engaging with students to facilitate their academic growth and success. My approach to online instructional design is characterized by a nuanced hybrid methodology that integrates best practices in online learning pedagogy with a strong emphasis on relationship building. I firmly believe that cultivating meaningful connections with students is paramount to fostering an enriching learning environment. By prioritizing student engagement and providing unwavering support, I endeavor to empower learners to realize their full potential and achieve academic excellence. Throughout my career, I have witnessed the transformative impact of online education on higher learning. As traditional barriers such as location and work/family commitments dissolve, online learning emerges as a powerful tool for democratizing access to higher education. I am deeply committed to leveraging this potential to level the playing field and broaden educational opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds. With academic credentials including a Master of Library Information Science with a concentration in Academic Libraries and a Library Management Certification, as well as a Master of Education with a concentration in Instructional Design, I bring a comprehensive understanding of both library sciences and instructional methodologies to my work. This blend of expertise allows me to navigate the complex intersection of library services and online teaching with insight and innovation. In my role at Mountain Gateway Community College, I am dedicated to driving innovation and excellence in online teaching and learning.
