About Noviar Andayani

Dr. Noviar Andayani, M. Sc joined WCS Indonesia Program as Deputy Director from the University of Indonesia, where she was Head of the Conservation Biology Graduate Program (2003 – 2007). She has been a lecturer at the University of Indonesia for over 35 years, and continues teaching conservation science in addition to her role at WCS IP. Outside of these two institutions, Dr. Andayani has been the Director of the Javan Gibbon Center since 2003 until now, and was the Chair of the Indonesian Primatological Association from 2005 – 2015. She holds a PhD in Conservation Biology from the University of Indonesia (partly based at the University of Columbia), with her research focusing on conservation genetics of two endemic and Critically Endangered primate species - Javan gibbon and Sumatran orangutan. In WCS, Dr. Andayani directs a country program of 344 staff and >50 projects covering the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, Lampung, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara. Dr. Andayani is also active in providing professional expertise to the Indonesian Government as well as in various conservation organizations and foundations as chairman, secretary, or member.
