About Nuutti Tervo

Currently, I am a visiting researcher and a Fulbright Finland Scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara until February 2026. I work as an Assistant Professor with the Centre for Wireless Communications—Radio Technologies (CWC-RT) Research Unit, University of Oulu, where I have been working in various roles since 2014. I am also the coordinator of the Devices and Circuit Technologies strategic research area in the 6G Flagship. Some of the former and current research projects include EU-funded 5GCHAMPION, Hexa-X, and Hexa-X II, the Academy of Finland 6G Flagship program, major Business Finland projects RF Sampo and RF ECO3, and several smaller industry-funded projects. While working at CWC, I have also had the privilege to participate in radio engineering teaching, guided several B.Sc. and M.Sc. thesis works, and currently supervise or co-supervise eight Ph.D. students.I received a B.Sc.(Tech.), M.Sc.(Tech.), and D.Sc.(Tech.) degrees (Hons.) from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 2014 and 2022, respectively. The grades in all three degrees were excellent. My Ph.D. dissertation research focused on the nonlinearity and linearization of millimeter-wave beamforming transceivers. I have a strong background in wireless communications, including RF transceivers, radio channel modeling, signal processing, and system-level analysis. Around those topics, I have already authored or coauthored more than 90 international journal articles and conference papers, as well as several patents. I have excellent laboratory skills that help to solve problems in practice and set up demonstrations and proof-of-concepts.In addition to the publications, I received the Young Scientist Award of the URSI Finnish Convention on Radio Science, Tampere, Finland, in 2019. In 2020, I coauthored the paper that won the 50th EuMC Microwave Prize 2020, Utrecht, The Netherlands.
