About Nuwan Perera

Nuwan Perera is a 4th Class STCW Marine Engineer, who is currently employed with BC Ferries. Nuwan is committed to ensuring safe, efficient operation and maintenance of marine engines, and vessel propulsion systems. Throughout Nuwan’s career, he has adhered to safe working protocols, has knowledge of main and auxiliary vessel systems and machinery from various manufacturers, and follows strict marine regulations. He brings a comprehensive understanding of Marine Engineering and has been studying from a variety of text. Along with the proper hands-on experience, Nuwan Perera is proficient in effectively troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues. Nuwan, at age 24, joins the industry as a Marine Engineering Officer after working as an Engineering Cadet. He has recently completed courses important and relevant to his marine engineering credential, demonstrating knowledge in Naval Architecture, Thermodynamics, Applied Mechanics, Automation & Controls, Advanced Electrical Technology Theory, General/Motor Engineering Knowledge, and Refrigeration/Air Conditioning. Nuwan holds a diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology Marine Engineering Program and holds a 4th Class STCW Certificate. Nuwan has entered the Marine Engineering field as a licensed Engineering Officer with a 4th Class STCW Motor Certificate of Competency. This certification allows him to work as a qualified Marine Engineering Officer on any commercial vessel of any size worldwide. It is also important to note that BCIT Marine Engineering graduates receive Transport Canada exemptions up to the First-Class Motor CoC level examinations. One major goal for Nuwan is that he is focused on pursuing a management-level education/career in the marine field. Perera is currently interested in pursuing a Bachelor's/Master's in Maritime Management, or Master's in Business Administration.
