About Nyla Moujaes

My mother grew up in Aleppo, Syria surrounded by a proud Armenian family and my father in the quaint mountains of Lebanon. As a child of immigrants and a gender non-conforming first generation legal aid lawyer, my commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and racial justice is not only a passion. It is a necessity. After practicing law as both a Staff Attorney and Managing attorney at various non-profit legal aid organizations and experiencing the DEI and racial equity challenges in the legal profession firsthand, I decided to make this my life’s work. At the Alameda County Homeless Action Center, I work with leaders to further create an organization and a culture where all talented individuals—including those traditionally underrepresented in the legal aid profession—can have, and can see, a path to success. I believe, to my very core, that diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations and teams perform better in every way. There is nothing more powerful than having a diverse group bring their ideas and perspectives together to solve challenges. When we allow for DEI and racial justice to shape our work, our solutions, our culture, and our lives, we all do better.
