About Nyla Spooner

Hi, I'm Nyla! Lovely to meet you. I’m a Learning Experience Designer. I create adult-learning experiences. I believe in strategic, user-centered design that prioritizes a foundational understanding of how people learn. I have experience creating training solutions for international audiences, translated in over 30 languages. I want to create transformative learning solutions that meet performance goals and change the way people feel about what they are learning. I don't believe in being limited by a singular technology when creating learning experiences, so I've tried to "learn a little about a lot" of edtech. That being said - I am an experienced Articulate Storyline specialist, have video editing experience, and have worked in Adobe Captivate. I practice what I preach, and am committed to my continuous education. I'm a self-directed learner, and I'm pretty good at tackling my own "curriculum". I'm currently working on my UX/UI and coding skills. I also enjoy mentoring new instructional designers and e-learning developers, and do so through my #100IDs program. I set a goal to mentor 100 Black Womxn entering the L&D space in 5 years. I know, sounds like a big goal, right? But I created scalable mentoring experiences that will help me reach that goal - including a popular virtual happy-hour. In addition to equitable mentorship, I am a co-founder and learning experience designer at Design for Humanity: a collective pairing experienced creatives with fresh faces to collaborate on real-world projects advocating for equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism. When I'm not building courses and other learning experiences, I create content around learning and development - including a podcast and YouTube videos. The Sims 3 taught me how powerful the creation of virtual worlds can be for one person. I love filmmaking and old BBC comedies. Born and raised in Houston, Texas on 7-13 (Houston's OG area code) I love my hometown and realize that real change-makers come from the third coast.
