Background
About Oleg Goushcha
Aerospace research engineer with over 20 years of experience in applied fluid mechanics research, mainly focused on wind-tunnel testing, and over 12 years of teaching undergraduate and graduate university level engineering courses. Currently working at NASA Langley Research Center to predict unsteady aerodynamic environments for Artemis Space Launch System through wind-tunnel testing and analysis of the flight data. Prior to joining NASA, was a tenure-track assistant professor at Manhattan University teaching engineering courses and conducting research. Presently teaching a course as an adjunct. As a subject matter expert, gave television interviews and public talks about NASA’s Artemis program. Analytical work - Development of models to predict unsteady aerodynamic environments, including transonic buffet of NASA’s Space Launch System- Modelling aerodynamic performance of low-speed vehicles, fluidic energy harvesters, and wind turbines- Development of models to predict performance of conventional rotorcraft and Rim Driven Thrusters- Pressure field reconstruction from Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and shadowgraph data. Instrumentation work - Installation and characterization of aerodynamic instrumentation on models used in large-scale wind-tunnels, such as NASA’s Transonic Dynamics Tunnel and Ames Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel- Performing scientific data analysis using MATLAB, Python, FORTRAN, Dewesoft, LabView, and R on wind-tunnel data and Development Flight Instrumentation (DFI) from Artemis I Space Launch System, Ares-IX, and the Space Shuttle- Uncertainty characterization of the associated instrumentation. Experimental methods - Experimenting in low-speed and transonic wind-tunnels, and shock-tubes- Visual flow quantification using Particle Image Velocimetry (time-resolved, tomographic)- Flow quantification and visualization using shadowgraph and Schlieren methods- Hot-wire anemometry and cold-wire thermometry. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)- Using CFD packages, which include ANSYS Fluent, NASA’s FUN3D, and OpenVSP- Gridding using Pointwise and other software.
