About Oli Hutt

In all my work, I seek to balance the competing demands of agile, fast-paced client needs with the depth and rigour of academic research. I have 10 years of experience in consultancy and research organisations where understanding client needs, designing a way to answer their questions, and then clearly communicating findings are critical to informing decision making. I find this is best accomplished as part of an engaged and supportive team, where the strengths of all team members are recognised and utilised to deliver the best outcome, whilst development opportunities are identified and harnessed to allow everyone to widen their skill set and feel a sense of accomplishment and mastery with their work. I have specific knowledge of policing and criminal justice, and my skills span a wide range of evaluation and analytical methods. Through four masters degrees and a PhD, I have developed substantial skill and knowledge of quantitative analytical techniques that can be applied in real world situations where issues are complex, data are messy, and prioritisation means there are always trade offs that have to be made. I have a highly valued ability to explain complex methods and findings in clear and accessible ways that support my clients to make evidence-based decisions and allow me to support and mentor my team.
