About Oliver Wilson

I’m a mission-driven systems thinker working at the interface of marine restoration, fisheries, governance, and research and innovation programmes. I translate monitoring and scientific evidence into actionable policy, funding pathways, and legal instruments—designing governance models that are pragmatic and auditable. My practice is evidence-led and quality-oriented: I develop and review QMS processes, maintain clear audit trails, and support defensible decision-making and delivery. I am currently the BlueMission Atlantic & Arctic Programmes Manager at the Marine Institute (WP1 lead: mission governance and implementation architecture) and Acting Coordiantor for BlueActionAA (an EU cascade grant funding project). My background spans international work across the EU, New Zealand, and the UK—directing the OpenSeas programme to ISO 9001:2015 certification and leading multi-stakeholder initiatives in fisheries science, risk assessment, and biodiversity. I hold an MSc in Marine Environmental Protection and a Graduate Certificate in Law (EU, Environmental, International Environmental Law, Law of the Sea), enabling me to bridge scientific analysis with regulatory context and implementation. Operationally, I plan and deliver structured work packages with clear ownership, milestones, and risk management, and I facilitate constructive challenge through evaluator-style reviews and gap analyses. I communicate complex systems through causal maps, and PESTEL and SWOT assessments, turning interdependencies into dashboards, mind maps, and concise visual artefacts that align partners and accelerate decisions. I work comfortably with international consortia, fisheries stakeholders (industry, science, and regulators), public-private partnerships, and national agencies, contributing to conferences, panels, and working groups on ocean governance, MPAs, sustainable fisheries, and the blue economy. I’m open to collaborations that advance resilient oceans, credible governance, sustainable fisheries, and measurable outcomes.
