About Olivia Compton

Views and endorsements expressed are my personal views and do not represent the DoD, Air Force, or Air Force Academy.I am an assistant professor of economics at the U.S. Air Force Academy. I am currently teaching Intermediate Macroeconomic, and I have taught Intro to Economics, Intro to Macroeconomics, Survey of International Economics, and the Economic Development and Conflict. I will teach Financial Economics in the Fall of 2026. My primary research interests are LGBTQ+ Economics, Labor Economics, Macroeconomics, and Health Economics. My most recent research with coauthors summarizes key economic facts about transgender and gender diverse people, and develops an economic model to explain these facts.I started volunteering at Inside Out Youth Services in late 2023 helping LGBTQIA2+ youth build access, equity, and power in their community. I soon joined the Policy & Advocacy Committee in Spring 2024 and was voted in as the Vice Chair in July 2025. I was invited to join the Board of Directors in Mar 2025 becoming a board member the following month. As the vice chair of the policy advocacy committee, I perform the following duties: plan and facilitate meetings; track and evaluate bills being considered by the Colorado General Assembly, ballot initiatives being reviewed by the Colorado Initiatives & Title Board, and court cases in the U.S. District of Colorado, the U.S. 10th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court; chair the legislative subcommittee, which reviews legislation and proposes what position the organization should take if any; communicate with partner organizations on their bill stances and needs; participate in stakeholder meetings; write testimony and testify in person, online, or via written submission at the local and state level.
