About Olivia Decroix

I am a Mechanical Engineer pursuing my Master's Degree in Ocean Resources & Engineering at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, with a focus in marine robotics. I wish to focus on marine robotics since it combines my passions for robotics and the ocean. I want to apply skills that I have learned through classes, summer programs, clubs and graduate research to advance the technology used in the exploration of the oceans. My senior design project was The AEVS (Autonomous Electric Vehicle Systems) project which designed and constructed an autonomous electric vehicle that could safely pickup, transport and deliver a package to a prearranged location on UH Manoa upper campus. In this project I was the project manager and on the powertrain subsystem. As Project manager I was responsible for establishing schedules, planning meetings, and setting deadlines for the team. I oversaw the development of the AEV and provided support to the subsystems when needed. I also handled the communication between our customer and outside vendors. As a team we competed in the Francis Rhodes Montgomery Design Competition in which we placed third, described here: https://shorturl.at/4N2JA. Prior to being the project manager I had developed leadership skills by working as an instructor at both the Los Alamos National Laboratory Physics Camp for Young Women and the iD Tech Camp at Arizona State University. I also have prior job experience working for the University of Hawaii at Manoa as a Resident Assistant, in which I act as a go-between for the students living on campus and higher management. I also worked as an overnight instructor at Internal Drive Technology (iD Tech). Where I not only taught students between the ages of 7 and 17 but I also helped with some of the administrational work in the day-to-day running of camp.I returned to iD Tech and am currently teaching the 3D printing course at UNC-Chapel Hill, when I returned I was asked to step in as the lead instructor for 2 weeks. As lead instructor, I gave students any required medication, supervised student activities, and provided support to the camp director.
