About Olivia Finlayson

Putting pen to paper has always been my passion—or, more accurately, a compulsion, ever since I was a whipper-snapper writing reams and reams of creative stories, newspapers for my classmates, letters to anyone who’d receive them, and countless journals. So, when graduating from university rolled around, I marched out into the professional world with a Bachelor of Communication from RMIT under my belt. I sought a role and career that would satisfy my creative writing itch. This led me to writing on a freelance basis for various online publications and digital agencies. I was beyond thrilled to land a role with Melbourne-based, internationally lauded skin care icon Aesop. My years with Aesop polished my writing and editing skills, honed my eye for detail and sharpened my attention to syntax, grammar, punctuation and rhythm (in addition to stoking my love of literature and nurturing a keen interest in architecture and design), and instilled in me unshakable standards of quality that steered my approach to writing thereafter.When writing and editing, I strive for exacting language. And prizing concision and clarity, I hold fast to Rule 17 of seminal text 'The Elements of Style': omit needless words – a mantra and practice essential to clean, clear and well-written copy.
