About Olivia Mathisen

As a recent graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in Science, I am passionate about creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students. During my student teaching placement at Asa C Adams Elementary, I had the opportunity to learn from a seasoned mentor teacher and push myself outside of my comfort zone. My time in the fourth-grade classroom at Miles Lane School provided me with insight into various teaching strategies and management techniques. In addition to my classroom experience, I have also worked as a camp counselor and equestrian instructor, providing a safe and enjoyable learning environment for children of all ages and abilities. As a former Resident Assistant at the University of Maine, I developed leadership abilities while providing social support for students transitioning from high school to college. I have also been involved in various volunteer and leadership positions, including serving as a summer camp counselor for children with disabilities and as the Outreach Chair for Explain the Asterisk, a group focused on raising awareness of sexual assault on campuses. My dedication to education, leadership, and inclusivity has been recognized through my membership in the National Honor Society. I am excited to continue my journey as an educator and make a positive impact in the lives of my future students.
