About Olivia Richardson

First and foremost, I love the water. From a young age, you could find me in the pool every spare second I had. My parents often had to pull me out of the water much to no avail. I caught the water bug. I spent my childhood and young adulthood swimming competitively for several local teams and I waited patiently for my fifteenth birthday so that I could become a lifeguard and swim instructor. When my fifteenth birthday finally rolled around, I signed up for my first lifeguard class and fell in love with the job. Keeping people safe in the water is my passion. It took me another two years to gain employment and earn my lifeguard certification at the local YMCA to start teaching lessons. I fell in love again with this new role. Whether it be teaching two year olds to float on their own, eight year olds to swim breaststroke or sixty year olds to breathe bilaterally in freestyle, I love what I do day in and day out. In April 2021, I became an aquatics coordinator in order to alleviate some of the daily administrative tasks from the aquatics director at my center. In doing so, I've learned how to motivate and teach lifeguards and swim instructors to do their very best on the stand and in the pool. In November 2021, I became the aquatics, building and grounds director at the Witham Family YMCA.
