Background
About Olivia Woosnam
Olivia Woosnam is a Certified Environmental Practitioner with a Master’s degree in environmental management and a Bachelor (politics & major in strategic management) with First Class Hons in environmental policy. After working on the Marrakech Process at the United Nations, she moved to Brisbane in 2007 and quickly specialised in applied Koala research. She and her husband Alex Dudkowski pioneered a range of powerful tools & methods for non-invasive Koala genetic studies that enable effective conservation plans. She spent the last 12 years optimising these tools, that are now highly suited to the citizen-science model. Olivia firmly believes that local communities must be allowed to lead Koala research, to ensure data transparency and hold authorities accountable. She continues to empower the public to expand citizen-powered Koala molecular sampling to scale so as to guide effective Koala recovery strategies in Eastern Australia, while continuing her close collaborations in academia for applied Koala molecular R&D.
