About Omar Abbaas

In a dynamic world continuous improvement and self development are essential. I am an ambitious person who is looking forward to succeed and be part of others success. The fields of supply chains, process improvement, operations research, and operations management are my true passion. Currently I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering department at Penn State University conducting several research projects and have multiple papers submitted to strong peer-reviewed scientific journals. I also have several years of experience as a continuous improvement leader. In this job I worked with cross organizational teams sometimes as a leader and other times as a member. I used data as well as management and employees feedback to define process related issues, then analyzed the data, and recommended improvement plans based on cost and benefit analysis. These recommendations were communicated to all levels of the organization from executive management to workshop technicians using visual aids and the appropriate level of details and technical information. I used many software tools including: Python, R, Minitab, SQL, Excel VBA, SharePoint, SolidWorks, PowerPoint, and others. Previous experiences also include working as a design engineer. In this job I designed the sheet metal parts of custom ordered air conditioning machines, then created the bill of materials, and followed up with manufacturing to make sure that designs are executed correctly without issues. Currently, I am looking forward to the next stage in my career. Ideally, my next work place will be one that challenges me and gives me the opportunity to work with a strong team of professionals to leave a positive impact in the organization and set a model for best practices in the field.
