Omar is a practitioner at the intersection of healthcare management, public health policy, and mental health advocacy. A graduate of Yale University (graduate student), and a current student at New York State University, he specializes in optimizing outcomes and access for vulnerable groups through leveraging multidisciplinary cooperation and process efficiency.Currently, Omar serves in dual roles as a Program Manager in Mental Health Administration and an Advocacy and Policy Coordinator focusing on Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) policy.Omar delves into the invariable relationship between cultural norms, religious systems, and beliefs, and models of community development. His current MPH study enables him to focus on the link between immigrant populations, particularly Caribbean immigrant populations, and public health outcomes in the Northeast United States.Driven by his commitment to advocating for vulnerable groups, Omar actively engages in community service, leadership, and advocacy efforts. His diverse interests and expertise encompass Public Policy, Mental Health Advocacy, Theology, Historical Religion, Biblical Studies, Medieval Christianity, and Contemporary Faith Traditions, Public Speaking, Leadership, Community Development, Research, Writing, and Blogging.With a rich background spanning various impactful roles, including Community Life Coordinator at Yale, Organizational Consultant and Educator at the Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport, CT, Advocacy and Membership Coordination at the Prince George’s Provider Council, and Research and Development Liaison within the Office of Transformational Leadership, Omar brings a wealth of experience to his work.Recognized for his dedication and expertise, Omar has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the Yale Presidential Public Service Fellowship (’19) and the coveted Sacred Sector Fellowship by the Center for Public Justice (Washington D.C) in 2020.These experiences have honed his competencies in community service, leadership, advocacy, and service delivery, driving his ongoing commitment to advancing Mental Health Administration and Public Policy for positive societal impact.Omar has been intentional about these collective vocational and academic experiences in order to develop competencies in community service, leadership, advocacy, service delivery and to enable further career development in Public Health and Policy.
