About Omar Seddati

I am an enthusiastic researcher and engineer with a passion for artificial intelligence, computer vision, and natural language processing. My academic journey has provided me with a strong foundation in engineering, computer science, and information systems, with a master's degree in Computer Science and Management. I completed my Ph.D. in Engineering and Technology at UMONS (FPMS), specializing in image and video recognition using deep neural networks for multimedia retrieval. Throughout my doctoral and postdoctoral work, I have contributed to several European and international projects across different AI application domains. My research has been recognized with the IBM Innovation Award (2019), highlighting the originality and impact of my doctoral thesis. I am currently developing VisIA, a first spin-off project from the University of Mons, focused on building a semi-proactive intelligent assistant for blind and visually impaired people, integrating advanced computer vision modules and a customizable attention mechanism. In parallel, I continue to collaborate with the ISIA Lab on research projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and human-computer interaction, aiming to create real-world impact through multimodal, accessible, and context-aware technologies. My broader interests include conversational AI, edge computing, and AI model optimization for deployment in everyday environments. Beyond research, I enjoy reading about personal growth and management, dancing (especially Latin dance), nature photography, classical music, and board games — all of which keep me inspired and balanced.
