About Oriol Mitja
I am a Professor in Infectious Diseases and Global Health at the at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Vic, as well as Head of the STI & NTD Section at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol. I have gained recognition for my work on yaws eradication, leading pivotal trials that influenced WHO policy. I have also worked on syphilis, mpox, and Covid-19, with over 130 peer-reviewed publications (40 in The Lancet journals) and more than €12 million in competitive funding. I am recipient of both ERC Starting 2019 and Consolidator 2024 Grants. I have participated in 18 WHO and CDC expert consultation meetings and continue to lead projects that bridge clinical, laboratory, and public health research in low-resource settings.
