About Oscar Seele

When asked I always say I am a senior software engineer. I do this because I don’t want to be put in a box like for example a Java developer, although that is a core competence of mine. I am interested in all aspects of software engineering and IT in general. I enjoy programming and trying to write the most elegant and maintainable code. Improving quality where I can and always write proper test code. My top one principle, separation of concerns. But I also like to think about architecture, not only in the applications I write, but also how they are positioned in the company and fit in the landscape. I love concepts like domain driven design, command & query responsibility segregation and event sourcing. In my last assignment I was able to apply those concepts to actual production applications and I found out how powerful they are, but also how challenging it is to especially apply in a corporation where priorities shift, agendas are full and where knowledge about these concepts vary. Next to my love for technology, architectural concepts, quality, frameworks and programming languages I am a team player. Of course the result is important but for me the most gratifying part of my job are the discussions with my peers behind a whiteboard, challenging each other and coming up with a proper solution for a given problem. To be able to help other people understand my point of view, but more important learning from them as well and coming out of a meeting with new ideas. IT changes a lot, which make my job exciting as new technologies come. I like to go to meet-ups and conferences to see what is happening in the world of IT and in what topics I should invest my time. I also like to be involved in other aspects than software engineering, like deployment automation, monitoring, containerizing and moving the cloud.
