About Owen Chevalier

I’m a doctoral candidate in philosophy at Western University, specializing in the philosophy of psychiatry, social epistemology, and media theory, with a growing focus on the ethics of artificial intelligence. My work examines how digital platforms—from TikTok to mental health apps—are reshaping psychiatric discourse, patient identity, and the epistemic frameworks through which we understand mental illness and care. With a foundation in both philosophy and psychology, I bring a unique interdisciplinary lens to problems that demand critical thinking, qualitative research, and conceptual clarity. My academic research is grounded in rigorous analysis, but also deeply engaged with public-facing challenges: how emerging technologies affect human well-being, how institutions manage expertise and trust, and how language shapes scientific and policy communication. I've contributed to clinical research teams, conducted patient interviews in healthcare settings, presented at national and international conferences, and published in both peer-reviewed journals and popular media outlets like The Conversation. I also have several years of experience teaching and mentoring students across the humanities and social sciences. I’m passionate about applying philosophical insight to real-world questions—whether in research, education, health policy, or tech ethics.
