About Owen Dickinson

Graduating in 2007 I went on to work in the gold industry in Australia for three years working on disseminated and narrow vein gold deposits. I then engaged in a short term contact as FIFO from the UK to Sweden between BM Geological Services and Avalon Minerals who were searching for Iron and Copper. I took up a position at Cleveland Potash as a mine geologist with my main focus being the setup of Datamine studio 3 for their new Polyhalite deposit. This leads to my current role where I am the sole geologist working at Foss mine, taking over from the previous geologist who resides in Kazakhstan. This role has been by far the most challenging and exciting for me. I have begun the mammoth task of converting all historic data, going back more than 30 years, none of which was electronic, into a format suitable for Surpac. With this data and the use of a Total station sourced from SCCS I have worked to create a 3D model of the developments and stopes as well as the extremely folded ore body with a grade distribution model. This work is still ongoing and very enjoyable. With the successful granting of planning permission for our new mine, Duntanlich Barite Mine, I am busy developing various aspects that are critical to a successful mine. These include, grade control program, XRF and assay laboratory, underground comms including personnel and asset tracking, mine site design and the sourcing of a production database.
