About Owen Else

Currently a Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) for an off highway vehicle manufacturer in charge of supplier development for air systems. I have been an engineer since starting an apprenticeship at the age of 18 in mechanical engineering and fabrication. After the completion of my apprenticeship I attended university where I studied for a degree in mechanical engineering design. After gaining my degree I moved to London where I began my post university career in the oil and gas industry as a graduate piping & plant layout engineer. Part of my experience on the graduate development scheme included a rotation to the primary engineering hub in Perth, Australia giving me the opportunity to work in a different working culture. Taking this knowledge, I developed a graduate support structure back in the UK office for new graduates joining the company.Along with my oil and gas industry experience I also spent several years in the radioisotope, nuclear and industrial sterilisation industry, as the sole mechanical engineer I was charged with a very wide range of tasks, from shipping hazardous material around the world to experimenting on radioactive material and shipping containers. I developed teletherapy sources for cutting edge equipment used in the fight against cancer. I developed novel storage systems for radioactive material along with remote handling methods for loading radioactive sources into customers equipment. As a time served fabricator and degree qualified mechanical engineer I have the ability to analyse a situation and develop a solution that is both rooted in sound academic knowledge and also very practical and production friendly.I am an ambitious person when it comes to personal and professional development, I believe that continued professional development should be at the core of any engineers ideas about career progression. I am currently working towards IEng registration along with attending seminars, trade shows and in house training.
