About Owen Latimer

I am a General Practitioner (GP) and Practice Owner in Bentleigh East, in Melbourne. I have a broad base of skills and experience in Primary Care Medicine, with particular interests in Paediatrics, Chronic and Complex Disease Management and Skin Cancer. I have growing experience in Practice Management and Leadership. I completed the majority of my training to become a GP in rural Queensland at one of the most highly awarded practices in Australia. This clinic was the 2006 RACGP National Practice of the Year and my mentor and supervisor Dr Pat Byrnes was awarded both the 2007 AGPT National Supervisor of the Year and the 2010 RACGP Australian GP of the Year. While there I obtained my fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2011 and completed a Diploma in Child Health through Westmead Children's Hospital and Sydney University, and got married! I provide supervision and teaching to GP Registrars through the RACGP as our clinic’s principal accredited supervisor. I have recently completed the 2023 RACGP Future Leader Program. I appreciate the central role a good GP should occupy within an increasingly sub-specialized, complex and fragmented healthcare system. I also believe that primary care can be cutting edge, innovative, proactive and evidence based and I apply these guiding principles to my clinical practice on a daily basis. I am passionate about what I do and find my work meaningful, challenging and fun.
