About Owen Matson

I am a Ph.D-trained media theorist and education researcher whose work examines how technology reshapes judgment, authorship, and institutional knowledge. I earned my doctorate at Princeton University, where my research was supported by the Whiting Fellowship for Distinguished Work in the Humanities and the Center for Human Values. I graduated Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, with high departmental honors in English from the University of California, Los Angeles.My work focuses on how media systems shape cognition, learning, and institutional practice. As a Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow in Digital Pedagogy at Georgia Institute of Technology, I extended this research into applied educational design, linking theoretical inquiry with classroom and platform experimentation.I have worked in educational technology since the early prior to its consolidation as a formal industry. My practice integrates systems thinking, networked cognition, and inclusive design, bringing academic rigor into scalable learning platforms. I have led education product strategy and learning experience design across UX, pedagogy, and content, including AI-integrated learning frameworks, SEL-centered tools, and professional learning systems.Alongside fifteen years of teaching across K–12, community college, and university contexts, I have spent the past decade leading content and product strategy in fast-scaling organizations. This work includes managing cross-functional teams, building contributor networks of more than two hundred specialists, and developing platform-integrated instructional systems serving millions of users. I have led content ecosystems across education, media, pharmaceuticals, AV, food manufacturing, and design, producing research-driven writing, multimedia learning environments, instructional video series, and large-scale content architectures.I specialize in translating complexity into durable narrative, aligning instructional integrity with organizational goals, and designing learning systems that operate across modalities and institutional contexts.
