About Owen Morris

With over 15 years of experience in the coatings industry, I am a passionate and innovative chemist who specializes in developing fire protection solutions for various markets. I am currently the PFP Innovation Leader at Kansai Paint Co,Ltd, where I lead the research and development of passive fire protection coatings and resins for the worldwide oil & gas and decorative markets. I am driven by the mission of creating safer and more sustainable products that meet the needs and expectations of our customers and stakeholders. I bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team, having worked in different regions, cultures, and sectors. In my current role, I am responsible for project management, resin design, market analysis, product concept development, and feasibility studies. I have successfully developed and launched several products, such as AlesChar U, a highly environmentally resistant epoxy intumescent for hydrocarbon pool fire protection, and AlesChar C, a jet fire resistant intumescent capable of resisting cycling from -40oC to +20oC. I have also contributed to multiple patents in the field of fire protection coatings and resins, demonstrating my creativity and problem-solving skills. I have strong cross-functional team leadership skills, and I collaborate effectively with internal and external partners, such as sales, marketing, operations, and customers. I am also proficient in the Japanese language, have worked in Japanese for the past 4 years.
