I am Chief Executive of the Plymouth Athenaeum, founded in 1812 as the Plymouth Institution. The Plymouth Athenaeum is a charity dedicated to the study and promotion of learning in science, technology, literature and art. The Devon and Cornwall Natural History Society, formed in 1838, amalgamated with the Plymouth Institution in 1851. The Plymouth Mechanics’ Institute was absorbed into the Society in 1899. Before working for the Plymouth Athenaeum, my career was spent in the newspaper industry and local government. I hold the position of Finance Lead for Plymouth Energy Community Trust and I am currently undertaking an MBA online at North Wales Management School, Wrexham Glyndwr University. My first degree was in Modern History and International Relations at the University of Reading. I am also a Fellow of the Zoological Society and the Royal Society of Arts.
