Background
About Paddy Behan
Working collaboratively as part of an effective team is very important to me. My most recent position evolved around the professional development of my health professions colleagues and the personal and professional development of 1,400 healthcare students involving policy, assessment, and improvement within a team of eight. I had managerial responsibility for the Centre for Student Success (CSS) and delivery of its programmes, activities, events, and sessions through face-to-face and blended-learning environments. From 2014-18 I was a contracted Education Consultant specialising in course development and andragogical methodologies for EMIC Training, a highly regarded international training provider located in Bahrain, specialising in high performance organisational and personal development solutions. Having a particular interest in continuous professional development, I passionately believe we all have a role in assisting each other reach our potential, both personally and professionally. This year I will be completing my PhD in Education in this area. I hold the International Computer Drivers’ Licence (ICDL) and so am comfortable in mainstream technology enhanced learning (TEL), as well as managing Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) and use of programmes like Articulate for online and recorded sessions, and Prezi for presentations and workshops. In addition to my role as Senior Learning Tutor in RCSI Bahrain, I was selected by RCSI Dublin as part of a three-person team to train educators from all health professions to promote excellence in teaching and translate theory and novel strategies to the learning environment. I was also Co-ordinator and Mentor of the ‘International Citizenship Award (ICA) Programme’ in RCSI Bahrain which encourages students to reflect on and develop skills, values, and attitudes that they will need to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment. In recent years I took responsibility of all exam appeal drafts in RCSI Bahrain, successfully informing and educating students about the academic appeal process, providing guidance on the construction of strong appeals, and presenting cases to the Exam Board in an effective manner. I consider myself a team player, who is highly organised and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. My personality, qualifications, experience, knowledge, and skills combine to create an effective education professional, dedicated to providing excellence at all times, giving 100% to everything I work at and assist others become the best they can possibly be.
