About Pam McHugh

I am an English Language Development Teacher at College Gardens Elementary School in Rockville, Maryland. I respect the many cultures of our diverse student population. Helping my language learners build their English proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening while supporting the maintenance of their native languages gives me great satisfaction. Currently, I teach 40 ESOL students in Kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Also, I tutor all students in Grades 1 - 12. It is my goal to tailor a one hour session to each student’s individual learning style in order to achieve maximum comprehension. I believe providing warmth and encouragement helps to nourish a student’s self-esteem, and, in turn, creates a gateway to success between home and school. I provide a safe space for kids to ask questions so that they may meet life's challenges with a greater sense of self-reliance. I sincerely care about every child with whom I work and become personally vested in his/her academic achievement.
