Journalist with several years of newspaper experience that ranges from being a reporter covering courts and police, county beat, municipal beats and feature writing to middle management posts from copy desk to city editor to managing editor at the Bethlehem Globe-Times until 1988 then city editor, business editor, religion editor, features editor and Sunday editor at the York Dispatch/Sunday News until deputy managing editor at The Sentinel in Carlisle until moving to HACC. I spent many exciting, wonderful years working the beat and sitting on the desk of newspapers - from the beat-up wooden desks at the Orange & White at U-T and the Maryville-Alcoa Daily Times where we had to take shoot our own photos to today's sleek, computerized newsroom. I love being on the "dark side"(never heard of that until I moved to HACC), and am discovering another side to public communications. Honestly, I find this job more exciting than the newsroom! Update: Yes, this job is more exciting than the newsroom! I've morphed from a "simple" director of media relations to interim director of integrated marketing communications and, now, integrated marketing communications coordinator at HACC's Lancaster Campus as part of a five-member team in the Office of College Advancement. It's been a whirlwind experience! Hearing the personal stories of our nearly students and seeing their successes despite personal obstacles is a humbling experience. Being able to be a tiny part of those successes is even more humbling. Could I have succeeded under similar hardships all those years ago at the University of Tennessee?
