Background
About Paolo Terni
As the senior research scientist of Duckworth Lab, Paolo Terni is at the forefront of the psychological research into grit, goal-attainment, and flourishing; and as a credentialed Professional Certified Coach with more than 20 years of experience, in the US and in his native Europe, he is able to effectively translate research insights into useful coaching strategies to help his clients. Paolo can deliver the most value to senior managers or executives wishing to have a strategic impact in their organization; or seeking brief coaching (one to three sessions) to solve a pressing leadership problem. As course designer for Grit Lab and Penn, Paolo Terni also works well with young leaders who want to develop their grit and leadership in the context of a flourishing life. He has the most experience in the Tech, Health / BioTech, and Manufacturing sectors. Paolo Terni is a Doctor of Philosophy (University of Milan, Italy, 1994), a Master NLP Practitioner (2004), a Solution-Focused Practitioner (2008) and holds a Master of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania (2014). Paolo is the author and co-author of several books and peer-reviewed papers on solution-focused coaching practice and positive psychology, including Ingredients for mastery: How to achieve excellence using positive psychology; Solution-focus: Bringing positive psychology into the conversation; and, for children and educators, Mr. Bear wants to be loved—And other stories about making change easier: for children and their parents, translated into 7 languages. Paolo maintains a low-volume private practice in executive coaching to serve leaders who feel stuck, in life or at work. He also enjoys working with young talents seeking to develop grit. He brings all his training and diverse personal and professional experiences to bear in coaching clients. Because of his background in philosophy, Paolo can help clients clarify their implicit philosophical assumptions and anchor them in the rich streams of Western thought. Because of his work as a scientist, Paolo uses only evidence-based coaching methodologies. As a naturalized US citizen and because of his family diversity, Paolo works particularly well with expats or with clients dealing with inter-cultural issues. Lastly, as a solution-focused practitioner, Paolo thinks of coaching as a conversation where the client is the expert and therefore he adopts a light-touch approach. If interested in coaching, in my books, or in the research I do, feel free to send me a LinkedIn message.
