About Papiya Roy

Papiya is an Environmental Specialist with more than 10 years of experience in climate change adaptation/mitigation research, policy development, capacity building, outreach and GHG accounting. Papiya has demonstrated her ability to lead and design climate action plans, policies to suit their stakeholder's needs. Papiya’s diverse experience with different sectors (consulting, research institutions, and government & non-government) in the field of environment, climate change & sustainability has provided her with valuable leadership, understanding, planning, communication and coordination skills essential for success in this industry. She has successfully applied and coordinated environmental and climate change projects funded by the World Bank, Government of India and GTZ. As a Policy Analyst, She strategized budgetary layout for a climate action plan for one of the major provinces in India, which reduces 50% of the total budget required for implementing the plan. Papiya successfully coordinated with the Government of India in establishing the Centre for Climate Change in her previous institute and built & led an interdisciplinary team of 15 people on climate research. Papiya possesses excellent skills in facilitating capacity building programmes. She secured US$ 1.4M from the Government of India for her previous institute to conduct capacity building programme on Climate Change, Waste Management and Environmental Education. She executed national-level capacity building for forest officials on climate change & forestry which first of its kind in India. As a project coordinator, she completed projects on GHG accounting from landfills, eco-system evaluation for agriculture, design and implementation of the climate action plan etc. She also played a vital role as Programme Coordinator of ENVIS to organize workshops, record keeping, meetings, technical development of content and fund management for an environmental information system for one of the Province of India. Papiya is a Certified Environmental Professional in-training by ECO Canada and familiarized herself with Canadian Environmental Laws and compliances.
