M. Parker Shippey,(aka Parker Shippey), has been working in the jurisdiction of I.A.T.S.E. Local 52 as an Electrician/Lighting Technician for over decade. Parker is proud to have a well balanced artistic & technical foundation. Endeavors in the arts include sculpture, painting, film photography & printing, & music as a singer & pianist. At that time, Parker preferred the more calculated career path with a promise of higher financial stability than a traditional visual or performing arts career. However, Parker still incorporated graphic arts through a degree that focused on computer science for animated films. More specifically: 3D modeling/character rigging, & computer based lighting/rendering. Parker worked several jobs while independently studying computer science/engineering under a self-structured degree. One of these jobs was at a camera/lighting/sound rental shop. This job served as a gateway for Parker into the live action Motion Picture industry. The knowledge & experience acquired there: inventory management. general maintenance, & electronic equipment repair quickly led to high paying freelance employment for Parker. The first day Parker began working as a freelance technician on sets, the tangible physical production environment that had ostensibly existed only in a computer simulated world before then, led them to decide to move forward in live action. Parker has maintained his scientific & artistic routes by consistently studying the newest innovations in technologies, integrating computer science & engineering into the Lighting technician workflow & in other business endeavors. Throughout Parker's career, they have primarily occupied the roll of an A.C.L.T.(Assistant Chief Lighting Technician)/2nd C.L.T.(Chief of Second Unit Lighting). An A.C.L.T. operates as the Foreperson for the Lighting/Electric department. where personnel management, organization, & strategic resource management are crucial for success. Parker highly values the technicians that work for & alongside them, & puts their well-being at the top of the priority list. As a role-model for those entering into the Film Industry, Parker offers the best education possible & insists that this education is not limited to the scope of working as a lamp operator. Instead Parker extends the education beyond the workplace towards other crucial components of success. These include an education on the basics of contract law, work ethics, self respect, financial literacy, tax systems, healthcare & health resources, safety, insurance, etc.
