About Pascal Hersen

I am a CNRS researcher, heading the physics department of Institut Curie (Physico Chimie Curie, UMR168). I was trained as a physicist at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris and Lyon and in biology at Harvard University. My research interests stem from physics, biology, design and computer science. I'm also passionate about Open-Science and the interactions between Science, Society and Technology. My research team uses and develops tools in microscopy, microfluidics, physics, synthetic biology and computer science to study the physics of living systems. Notably, we are pioneers in Cybergenetics, a novel field of research which aims at controling in real time the genetic properties of living biological systems - such as single cells - with microfluidics, optogenetics, computers and artificial intelligence.
