Does your software truly live? Or is it dead, static, ossified? The hallmarks of "live" software are that it: 1) Includes tools inherent in its enhancement and upgrade - whether these are flexible versioning systems or backward/forward compatibility or something more creative. 2) Configurable logging and tracing facilities providing those who must operate and maintain your software the tools needed to diagnose and learn. 3) Modular design with the hooks needed to snap in more modules The primary skill of an IT technical person is analysis. It takes careful data gathering and analysis of that data to design solutions or to deconstruct limitations in an existing solution. Classifying aspects and organizing a solution must be both robust (complete) and scale-able. This usually extends across hardware/system boundaries, implements in continuously maintainable phases and insulates itself as much as possible from external dependencies. The resulting system should be easy to operate, maintain and enhance. It should provide statistics, system-health, logging, alerting and problem analysis tools, because no matter how comprehensive the solution, there will always be an occasional black swan data event. My goal is to contribute to the organization and the team. I like to leverage existing expertise while staying current on new technologies. And I am a sharer. I don't believe in "job security"; I am an "Accessible Guru". My latest areas of interest are computer security and enterprise architecture.
