About Pat Chase

The first person to transition from a position as a director of hospital pharmacy to a deanship. The 12th woman in the history of pharmacy in America to secure a position as a Dean in a School/College of Pharmacy. I am the 9th woman to be an AACP president. The first woman to work in both in teaching-intensive and research-intensive schools. I was the dean at Butler for 6 years and at WVU for 10 years. Held positions in 6 schools/colleges of pharmacy serving in roles spanning from an Assistant, Associate and full Professor (tenured) to an Associate Dean/Facilitative Officer to a Dean. Assisted in the design of the AACP’s Academic Leadership Fellows Program (ALFP) and taught the leadership workshop for 12 years. As of 2020, over 72 of the sitting deans in this country have been through that program. I served as both Dean Facilitator for two sessions and supported and mentored a faculty member at WVU each year. I will serve as a Dean Facilitator in 2022-23. In 1996, was the second person hired (after the dean) to establish one of the first new pharmacy programs at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona California. At that time there was no curriculum, policies and procedures, admissions process, no faculty, or assessment process. It was a blank page. At WesternU, I used the knowledge gained from my Ph.D. degree and worked with colleagues to develop the first block curriculum in a pharmacy program in the U.S. Established the first Health Education Program for a school of pharmacy at Butler University. The My First Patient Program went on to become a University-wide initiative. This program received an Innovations in Teaching Award from AACP. Received an Honorable Mention in the AACP Innovations in Teaching Program for my work on Discovery Maps developed at WesternU of Health Sciences. I have two endowed scholarships in my name.
