About Pat Smith

I am from rural Georgia, and have established a notable career in the public and private sectors over the past 18 years. Currently the Community Engagement Manager for the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), where I develop ongoing relationships with community and faith-based leaders to promote and enhance services for children in the child welfare system. With an extensive background in mass communications I served as the first African-American Press Secretary for DCF. I am a true public servant and has played an active role in highlighting the importance of women through mentorship. Previously, I hosted a radio talk show on WTAL radio called the “The Woman in You” In 2011, I was recognized by the Tallahassee Democrat as one of “Tallahassee’s 25 Women You Need to Know ” and also appointed by the Leon County Commissioners to serve on the inaugural Leon County Status of Women and Girls Commission. Additionally, Governor Rick Scott appointed me to the Florida Faith-Based and Community-Based Advisory Council. I was also Tallahassee Woman magazine’s cover woman for the 2012 April-May issue. A wife and mother of one, I look to help others in the community by forming mentoring relationships.
